The Department of Preventive Medicine at Rush University Medical Center is seeking a tenured Associate or Full Professor to join its team as the Section Director of Community Health.

The Department is multi-disciplinary, comprised of faculty with interests in the development, design, implementation, and analyses of behavioral clinical trials to improve chronic diseases. The Section of Community Health focuses on community-based participatory research approaches to develop and implement community-based interventions to improve health equity.  Rush has made community health equity an institutional initiative and is establishing an Institute for Population Health and Equity within Rush University.  The Section Director for Community Health will play a critical role as a thought leader in helping to establish a research agenda for the Institute. Faculty in Community Health work closely with the Rush DePaul Center for Community Health Equity, an inter-disciplinary group of faculty at Rush and DePaul Universities, and with West Side United, a consortium of hospitals and community partners working to improve health equity in Chicago’s underserved west side communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to have an established record of externally funded research and to maintain it in their area of expertise.  The successful candidate will grow the Section of Community Health, develop and implement a 5-year strategic plan, and provide leadership and vision for the entire Department.  We strongly encourage candidates with education and experience in lifestyle medicine, chronic disease management, community/public health, socio-medical sciences, and/or health disparities to apply. A doctoral degree in medicine (MD) is strongly preferred with evidence of a long-standing commitment to clinical research. Experience in social epidemiology and health disparities is preferred.  An interest in blood pressure control in the underserved is particularly attractive. The Department requires a strong publication record, excellence in teaching and mentoring. Success in working with multidisciplinary teams, and innovative and high-impact research.
