Advanced Practice Provider (Physician’s Asst/Nurse Practitioner)

Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

Department of Psychiatry

Rush University Medical Center

Chicago, IL

Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for qualified nurse practitioners and physician assistants for its Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service

The Department of Psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center is recruiting an advanced practice provider for its Psychiatric Consultation Liaison Service. The candidate will join the faculty of our interdisciplinary collaborative academic medical center, and supervise and teach residents, medical students and other trainees. This is a full-time position with academic rank and salary commensurate with experience. Prior clinical experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry settings is desirable.

The Consultation Liaison service plays an integral role in psychiatric screening of candidates for solid organ transplantation and a component of this position would involve assessment of patients and psychiatric risk stratification prior to liver and kidney transplantation.  Rush University has over 300 current recipients of liver transplants, many of whom have coexisting psychiatric needs.  Support and counselling before and after transplantation, diagnosis and treatment of comorbid mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders, and psychopharmacological management of this population during their preoperative and postoperative course will be expected.  The position will involve close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and nurses in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.  Opportunities also exist for innovative delivery of care in other settings, including co-location in other medical and nonpsychiatric venues.
