One of the nation’s leading academic systems for health.

Rush University System for Health brings together some of the brightest minds in medicine, research and academics. Our continued accomplishments in these pursuits have earned Rush University Medical Center the distinction of being on the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2020-2021—placing the Medical Center among the top 20 hospitals in the country. U.S. News & World Report has also recognized 11 Rush programs among the nation’s best, including two programs in the top five.

Our success in academics has earned Rush a Top Teaching Hospital recognition from The Leapfrog Group and the #1 spot amongst national academic centers in a study conducted by Vizient, a health care services company.

At Rush, physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, allied health clinicians and researchers enjoy a team-based culture that maximizes the collective expertise of teams driven to pursue excellence and discovery.

We’re shaping the future of health care by making it more personal, accessible and transparent, while also inspiring and empowering the next generation of health care providers.

For Chicago, before Chicago.

The roots of Rush’s exceptional patient care trace back to March 2, 1837, when Rush Medical College received its charter, two days before the city of Chicago was incorporated. The college was named in honor of Benjamin Rush, MD, the only physician with medical school training to sign the Declaration of Independence.

That sense of independent thinking, freedom to grow, equality and inclusion continues at Rush today. Rush is physician-led with one governing board overseeing all entities. In addition, our community of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, researchers, faculty, students and staff includes a high percentage of women and minorities, as well as LGBT and veteran employees, reflecting the diverse Chicago communities we serve. Together, there are more than 700 employed physicians and 300 advanced practice providers at Rush, in more than 111 specialties and subspecialties, singularly focused on transforming health care and providing exceptional patient care.
