Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor faculty position in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Section of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. A conferred doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, or an equivalent quantitative discipline is required by the start of the appointment.


The ideal candidate will have a passion to design, conduct, and analyze behavioral clinical trials in addition to strong oral/written communication skills, ability to problem solve, work in multidisciplinary teams, and the potential for sustained scholarly productivity. Preference will be given to candidates who recognize that there is a vast amount of novel statistical methods being underutilized or not being utilized at all, and that, the role of a methodological researcher entails not only the development of new methods but the rigorous application of existing ones. Experience with cluster randomized trials, analysis of intensive longitudinal data, structural equation modeling, or missing data is a plus.   


The Department is multidisciplinary, comprised of faculty with interests in the development of behavioral interventions and the design, implementation, and analyses of behavioral clinical trials to improve chronic disease outcomes. The Department currently has a $32.5 million extramurally funded research program in primary and secondary chronic disease prevention. Some of the current research projects include a multisite clinical trial aimed at lifestyle change to reverse the metabolic syndrome, a faith-based clustered randomized trial targeting hypertension, a 27-year longitudinal epidemiologic study of women’s health, and a P50 NIH Center for Multiple Chronic Diseases Associated with Health Disparities). The Section of Biostatistics and Epidemiology provides analytic, statistical, and data management support to investigators within the Department. The vision for the Section is to build expertise in the practical implementation of novel statistical methods in lieu of developing them. The Section also houses the Data Management Center (DMC) with expertise in designing and implementing multiplatform data capture systems as well as providing data coordination and analysis for multicenter clinical trials.
