Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution, and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Division Chief of General Internal Medicine.

The Division Chief of General Internal Medicine (GIM) will be responsible for providing strategic, innovative, and operational leadership, and will be accountable for the clinical and academic performance of the largest division within the Department of Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will have the credentials to merit a faculty appointment of Associate Professor or Professor and will possess a demonstrated experience in innovation and value-based care. In addition, (s)he will also be committed to mentoring faculty, trainees, and medical students. Preferred candidates will have a strong record of collaborative leadership and commitment to excellence in clinical, research, and academic services. Candidates with ongoing research achievements and community engagements are highly desirable.

As a leader within the Department of Internal Medicine, the Division Chief of General Internal Medicine will work closely with the Department Chairperson and leadership to provide an energetic and inventive vision for maintaining and growing clinical and academic programs developing strategic interdisciplinary teams for furthering research, and continuing faculty development. Requirements for consideration include:

- MD, MD-PhD or DO

- Active board certification in Internal Medicine

- Licensed or able to obtain a medical license in the State of Illinois without restriction

- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a physician leader at a large medical center (academic medical centers are preferred, but not required)

- Credentials to merit a faculty appointment of Associate Professor or Professor

- Leadership experience with programmatic development and building/managing large practices

- Experience working with value-based care plans

- Familiarity with the development and management of Urgent Care practice models and planning

- Experience obtaining and managing research grants (NIH, industry, or philanthropic)

- Nationally recognized (preferred)


The Division of General Internal Medicine at Rush is committed to providing exceptional patient-centered care, training and developing clinicians, and conduct research.
