Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution, and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, in partnership with Esperanza Health Centers, a nationally recognized Federally Qualified Health Center, both located in Chicago, invites applications for the leadership of our new Family Medicine Residency program as Family Medicine Residency Program Director.   

The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a candidate to direct the training of future family physicians. The Residency Program Director will be responsible for residency program operations, curriculum, policies, and procedures, maintaining ACGME accreditation, residency recruitment, and evaluations. The Director will also participate in oversight of the budget process and supervision of the program coordinator. Candidates must have an MD, DO, or equivalent degree and be board certified in Family Medicine. Faculty appointments and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

The Rush Esperanza Residency seeks to be a nationally recognized leader in Family Medicine education, training residents to improve individual and community health outcomes and reduce health inequities. The ACGME-accredited residency program will include 24 residents who have their primary clinical outpatient experience at Esperanza Health Center in Brighton Park and rotate on the inpatient services and subspecialty services at Rush Oak Park and Rush University Medical center (RUMC).  We have a strong commitment to excellence in patient care and research. The residency fosters an environment where residents build skills in clinical inpatient and outpatient primary care.  The mission of the residency is to train residents to care for patients from historically oppressed communities in diverse settings.  The residency will foster a commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, team-based care, population health, and scientific advancement.  Through community partnerships and innovative multidisciplinary curricula, the Residency will serve as a national leader and resource for transforming healthcare to achieve health equity.

Esperanza Health Center, Brighton Park, is a federally qualified health center located on Chicago’s southwest side.  The mission is “To deliver health and hope for Chicago’s underserved communities”.  Esperanza provides bilingual, high quality primary care, behavioral health and wellness services to the community, regardless of immigration status, insurance status or ability to pay.  The Brighton Park site opened in 2019 and serves 20,000 patients each year with high quality healthcare. The commitment to offering care of the highest quality is made clear by Esperanza’s designation as a National Quality Leader by HRSA in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020 which ranks Esperanza among the top 3% of health centers in the nation and the top two in Illinois for quality of care.
