Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Medical Physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
The physicist is expected to support all aspects of medical physics services in radiation oncology. We are a multicenter practice therefore coverage and travel between sites may be required. All Rush faculty members are expected to contribute to our institutional mission as it pertains to patient care, teaching, and research. Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with other professionals are highly desirable. The academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the level of expertise and experience. Individuals who passed ABR part I and are finishing their CAMPEP approved residency by June 30, 2021, will be given full consideration.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is a multi-site practice, currently operating two facilities within an eight mile distance of each other. The Department of Radiation Oncology has active residency programs in radiation oncology and medical physics. The department at the main campus is equipped with three Varian linear accelerators, a Tomotherapy unit and a 16-slice large bore 4D CT simulator. A very active SRS/SBRT program is supported by a dedicated TrueBeam STx unit which includes the ExacTrac positioning system. A busy HDR program is also part of the practice at the main campus and it uses the GammaMed_iX HDR unit and BrachyVision TPS. LDR and IORT brachytherapy procedures are also performed at the main campus. Treatment planning is performed using Eclipse, Pinnacle, iPlan, MIM, Mirada and Variseed. Our new outpatient Cancer Center facility will include a new, state-of-the-art, department which will be equipped with the latest technology. The department at Rush Oak Park Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art treatment planning and delivery equipment, including a new Varian Clinac iX with CBCT, IGRT, and RapidArc capabilities. A plethora of equipment is available for machine and patient specific QA at both sites. All simulation, planning and treatment activities are integrated in Aria 15.6 RO-EMR which is interfaced with EPIC system wide EMR. Our department has active clinical and research programs in IGRT, IMRT, SRS, SBRT, Monte Carlo simulation, thermal imaging, and the use of AI for organ segmentation in radiation therapy.
Our new, state-of-the-art Cancer Center facility in Chicago will serve as a hub for services throughout our health system. Our core programs are supported by multi-disciplinary teams from hematology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, research and bioinformatics, clinical operations, and dedicated clinical and support staff, including patient navigators. This structure allows specialists to more easily consult and see patients based on tumor type or molecular and genomic signatures, combining our outstanding multidisciplinary approach with a data infrastructure that supports this patient-centered care. This integration enables us to make a greater commitment to research, dramatically scaling the effectiveness of clinical trials, and enabling translational research that moves bench to bedside, and bedside to bench.
