Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for an Advanced Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

The Rush Center for Crohn’s and Colitis offers advanced training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) for qualified candidates. Each year, one (1) fellow will have the opportunity to receive advanced training in IBD. The fellowship consists of approximately 60% clinical and 40% research time.

Overview and objectives

• Gain experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of inflammatory bowel disease in the outpatient and inpatient setting
• Gain experience in the management of a hospital rounding team
• Develop skills in the training and education of internal medicine residents and students rotating on the IBD service

Selection process and criteria

Applicants matriculated into the Advanced Fellowship must possess one of the following qualifications:

• Graduation from a medical college in the United States or Canada which is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
• Graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States which is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
• Graduation from a medical college outside the United States or Canada and possession of either a currently valid certification from the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois
• Graduation from a non-U.S. medical college and completion of a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical college

Research

The Rush Center for Integrated Microbiome and Chronobiology Research (CIMCR) houses numerous basic, translational, and clinical studies that candidates can participate in during the fellowship. The fellow’s research project will be based on experience, interests, and expertise with the Division. Highlights include:

• Environmental factors in IBD such as alcohol, sleep, stress, and circadian misalignment
• Assessment of intestinal barrier homeostasis and intestinal microbiota
• Associated diseases related to IBD (heart, liver, bone, etc.)

Requirements and Eligibility

• Completion of Internal Medicine Residency training at an ACGME-accredited institution.
• License to practice medicine in Illinois.
